With many different types of water sports available, water sports are a rewarding and exciting way to spend a holiday. On la Gomera you will find a limit amount of water sports than the other islands as this island does not rely on tourism for its income, so it attracts people who seek rest, quiet, beautiful scenery and nature at its best.

Subacquea Isole Canarie

There is a lot of coastline (1491km) on the Canary Islands in proportion to the surface area. The geographic position of the Islands and the influence of the high pressure area over the Azores give the canaries a sunny and stable climate. There can be a great difference in weather between the north and south of each island due to the changes in altitude. With the exception of a few short storms, we have the ideal conditions for our favourite sport Scuba Diving.

The Canary Island waters are oceanic, benefiting from the Gulf Stream. This stream to a degree is what regulates the water temperature in these areas. This varies from a low of 19c in the winter and up to 25c in the summer. The further away from the African coast the cooler the water will become, for example the waters of El Hierro will be slightly cooler than of Lanzarote. These changes are an important factor as they affect the distribution of the marine species.

Although the Canary Islands are close to the African coast the waters here produce very little plankton, which makes them some of the clearest waters in the world, with visibility exceeding 30m at certain times of the year. Only in the spring you will find some vegetable plankton growth, this will only affect the visibility slightly.

In the Canary Islands you will find many different species depending on geographic position, water temperature, where the currents come from and also the composition of the sea bed. You will see both North Atlantic species (including tropical and sub tropical) and Mediterranean species, the ability to propagate has enabled them to establish themselves here. You can also find some Endemic species, found no where else in the world.

With the world ever changing we need to protect and conserve nature. With this in mind the Canary Islands have many marine reserves and more are being planned by the regional Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries for the future.

Taking all the above into account you could not ask for a better place to dive, with so many different species and so many different types of topography, caves, wrecks and shore dives you can dive a different place everyday.

Subacquea La Gomera

La Gomera only has a few dive centres, but they are situated in the north, south and west of the island.

The southern coast of La Gomera has scarce currents so makes this ideal for all levels. Fish life on the Canary Islands is very similar, however as you would expect La Gomera has very fewer hotels etc, so the sea life is may be a little more than on some of the other islands. In the waters you will see moray eels, trumpet fish, different kind of rays, groupers, barracudas and in summer even tuna and turtles. Many of the fish swim close to the surface, so these can be seen with a simple mask and snorkel.

Viaggi barca La Gomera

La Gomera is filled with many adventurous boat trips, particularly up to the natural monument on the coast to the north where you will find the spectacular Los Organos. This gives you the perfect opportunity to see the most stunning scenery and geology of the island.

Whales and Dolphin watching trips are available, but in La Gomera they do it a bit differently, due caution to conservation of whales and dolphins. During the trip you will observe whales and dolphins in their natural habitat, with no interruption from man kind. La Gomera provides trips for education and conservation. You will travel on small fisherman’s boats for each excursion.
