In El Hierro you also can go parasailing, which is a popular sport in which the rider hitched to a parachute like canopy, known as a Parasail, is set aloft in the air. The Parasail is attached to a long towrope, which is pulled along, by a speeding form of transportation. When the speed exceeds the stalling speed, the parasail rises, hoisting the pilot up into the air.

Frontera is situated near the centre of the island and close to El Golfo, a rich wine- growing area. Sabinosa is most famous for its waters; it’s said to be medicinal. Sport acquatici El Hierro

With many different types of water sports available, water sports are a rewarding and exciting way to spend a break away in clear waters. You will find a limit amount of water sports than the other islands as this island does not rely on tourism for its income, so it attracts people who seek rest, quiet, beautiful scenery and nature at its best.

Subacquea El Hierro

The typically calm waters of the so appropriately called "Mar de Las Calmas" contain 25 known dive sites and the island is home to several dive centers. The main diving is in the village of La Restinga, this is on the most southern tip of the island with a population of less than 200. La Restinga is by a protected marine park. The waters of el Hierro were officially declared a marine sanctuary in 1996 and this fact is celebrated by a yearly fotosub competition. El Hierro was also declared a biosphere reservation by the UNESCO in the year 2000. If tranquility, excellent diving, and quality time with your camera sounds good, then this is the place to be.

Subacquea Isole Canarie

There is a lot of coastline (1491km) on the Canary Islands in proportion to the surface area. The geographic position of the Islands and the influence of the high pressure area over the Azores give the canaries a sunny and stable climate. There can be a great difference in weather between the north and south of each island due to the changes in altitude. With the exception of a few short storms, we have the ideal conditions for our favourite sport Scuba Diving.

The Canary Island waters are oceanic, benefiting from the Gulf Stream. This stream to a degree is what regulates the water temperature in these areas. This varies from a low of 19c in the winter and up to 25c in the summer. The further away from the African coast the cooler the water will become, for example the waters of El Hierro will be slightly cooler than of Lanzarote. These changes are an important factor as they affect the distribution of the marine species.

Although the Canary Islands are close to the African coast the waters here produce very little plankton, which makes them some of the clearest waters in the world, with visibility exceeding 30m at certain times of the year. Only in the spring you will find some vegetable plankton growth, this will only affect the visibility slightly.

In the Canary Islands you will find many different species depending on geographic position, water temperature, where the currents come from and also the composition of the sea bed. You will see both North Atlantic species (including tropical and sub tropical) and Mediterranean species, the ability to propagate has enabled them to establish themselves here. You can also find some Endemic species, found no where else in the world.

With the world ever changing we need to protect and conserve nature. With this in mind the Canary Islands have many marine reserves and more are being planned by the regional Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries for the future.

Taking all the above into account you could not ask for a better place to dive, with so many different species and so many different types of topography, caves, wrecks and shore dives you can dive a different place everyday.

Viaggi barca El Hierro
