This natural park is an area of supreme natural beauty that is protected from environmental damage and further development by law.

It lies right on the front line of the Corralejo beach, one of the most fascinating beaches on the island of Fuerteventura, and it is surrounded by impressive white sand dunes.

Both Island of Lobos and the sandy plain or jable of Corralejo are of great significance to avifauna, having been designed by SEO/Birdlife as IBA routes (Es 336 Lobos Island and Es 337 Corralejo Jable).

The sandy plain or jable is, due to its extension, the predominant environment although inland plains of different sustrata (earthy and/or rocky), as well as lava fields, can also be found.
